Walk erect

Technorati Tags: ,,

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves. And I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.” Leviticus 26:13 (ESV)

The Adversary is the master of slavery. He binds us with habits, attitudes, guilt and fear. “Love is but a song we sing, fear’s the way we die.” We may clean up the exterior, put on a brave front and pronounce our denial, yet deep inside of every person there is that nagging voice that whispers the cry of one in bondage; we all have our Egypt.

Praise be to God that he has brought us out of Egypt. Through our faith in Christ we have been set free from the bondage of our past and set free to live a new life. It is the intent of God and Christ that we live as those who are free, and to not be bound again by those things that once enslaved us; the bars of your yoke have been broken.

We can and should walk erect, not burdened with the guilt, worry and habits that once pressed down on us. Yet as the freed Israelites longed for Egypt rather than the freedom of the promise, we too readily return to the yoke of worry and sin; the Adversary weighs us down with erroneous chains and we again walk bowed over as if enslaved.

The message of the Lord your God is that you have been set free! Accept it and live it.

7 fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.

Proverbs 3:7-8 (ESV)
