Disrupters in the house of God

Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. (John 12:2 NIV)

Just days before Jesus would be crucified he spends time with some friends. Martha shows her devotion through service, Lazarus by spending time in the presence of Jesus, and Mary by worshiping at Jesus feet. What an amazing picture.

Yet there is always someone who tries to disrupt a good thing, enter Judas. He criticized Mary and disrupted the fellowship with argument and negativity.

We have people in our churches today who disrupt the service, fellowship and worship. Like Judas they do not have the truly intimate relationship and sacrificial devotion of Martha, Lazarus and Mary. Their focus is on the material not the spiritual so they self-righteously criticize those who do know what devotion and worship are.

They talk of plans and programs, of budgets and buildings, they talk of attendance and of styles, yet the love and joy of serving, fellowship and worship are missing. They complain that those that have these are doing it wrong, and of course the disrupter knows how it should be done and is willing to share their expertise.

Scripture is harsh on those who cause division and dissension, we should be vigilant to not let these disrupters undermine the joy and mission of serving Christ.
