What kind of love is this?

I am grieved with how many of my fellow Christians have reacted to the Supreme Court decision on marriage. My grief has nothing to do with homosexuality being right or wrong, or if Gay marriage is right or wrong or should be legal. What hurts is to see those who profess the love of Christ viscously attacking those they disagree with. Accepting another point of view is not the same as agreeing with it. When our disagreements become arguments and name calling,  we know we are in the wrong. The test of salvation is not one’s opinion on Gay marriage, it is their profession of Christ as Savior.

Jesus said:

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:43-45 NIV)

And we are told to:

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. (Romans 12:14 NIV)

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21 NIV)
